This programme introduces and develops the concepts and practice of counselling Children & Young People and will support practitioners to work with clients ranging from very young children through to 18 year olds. Some students will be trainee Counsellor/Psychotherapists and using the learning to support them to access placements with Children & Young People. Some students will already be qualified and considering working with Children & Young People, others will be already practising with Children & Young People and will use the course to reflect on their practice and deepen their learning.
The course is based on the philosophies and principles of the person centred approach.
It will support participants to fulfil their personal and professional learning needs and to develop their own approaches to counselling children and young people, whatever their theoretical training.
If you are working towards BACP Accreditation, completion of the Certificate & Diploma coursework will support you to meet 2 of the 4 Reflective Practice Criteria in the Accreditation application.
If you are already BACP Accredited and are considering applying for Senior Accreditation (Children & Young People), completion of the Certificate & Diploma coursework will support you to meet all of the Reflective Practice Criteria in the Senior Accreditation application.
The learning on the course supports work with clients ranging from very young children through to 18 year olds. We are awaiting BACP’s curriculum for working with children (4-11 years) and intend to integrate the learning outcomes into our course. We have already developed the course to meet the majority of learning outcomes detailed in the BACP’s evidenced informed curriculum framework for working with young people (11–18 years).
The Certificate and Diploma groups run concurrently so that students from both courses are in the same group. Having all the students in the same room allows the sharing of diverse personal & professional experiences.
