About this course

The course will develop your knowledge, understanding and practical skills for counselling Children & Young People.  The learning on the course supports work with clients ranging from very young children to 18 year olds.

The learning outcomes from BACP’s curriculum framework for working with young people (11–18 years) are integrated into the course.

The course also takes account of BACP’s competencies for working with young people (4-18).

The diploma course runs over 2 years, with 5 weekends of contact time and 3 evening seminars each year.

The first year of the course is open to qualified counsellors who are working with, or would like to work with children and young people, as well as to trainees who have completed 100 hours of counselling. A Certificate in Counselling CYP is awarded on successful completion of this year.

Access to the second year is dependent on successfully completing the Certificate year. Students may wish to take time out to gain more experience in between year 1 and 2.  Successful completion of the second year leads to a Diploma in counselling CYP.
