Counselling in a school – Considering the impact of others’ expectations
About Sue Lewis
Since qualifying as a counsellor in 1998, Sue has worked which children, young people and adults in a variety of contexts. This includes working in the NHS, the Voluntary Sector, Employee Assistance Programmes and in Private Practice.
For 9 years, Sue was employed by Relate’s young people’s counselling service, providing counselling in primary and secondary schools. She currently works on a self-employed basis as a secondary school counsellor, as well as seeing adults, children and young people in private practice in Derbyshire.
Sue is a senior accredited counsellor and supervisor with BACP. Sue has been supervising since 2004, both privately and for organisations. This includes offering individual and group supervision to counsellors working with young people. Having previously worked as a primary school teacher, Sue has worked with children and young people all her working life.
Sue is passionate about the Person-centred Approach and has co-facilitated a Person-centred counselling diploma course in Nottingham for 4 years Sue is also interested in exploring how teachers and others in caring professions can be supported in their work.
About Emma Yates
Emma Yates is a drystone waller, a motorcyclist and an adventurer in the world of counselling.
Having broken out of her teaching career following a 2 year stint in Africa with Voluntary Service Overseas Emma retrained to become a counsellor studying at UEA in Norwich with Brian Thorne.
Since qualifying as a counsellor Emma has worked in a wide variety of settings with children and young people as well as developing a specialist private practice for LGBT clients.
Emma has a passion for the outdoors and is also developing her interest in taking therapy out of doors.
Her interest in safeguarding and ethics and young people comes from a 14 year career balancing the complex needs of clients, organisations and her own ethical values. It is this rich experience that she brings to the work she is doing with Sue Lewis and Temenos.
